4. Little Willie
The story continues…
Willie felt good about himself when he came home. His voting-by-shopping system had been voted through in the congress without any hassle whatsoever. He hadn’t expected it to go so smoothly. In fact, he had expected quite a commotion and resistance. There was no sign of his wife Fiona, but then again she had been putting in extra hours at the gym ever since “Celeb Weekly” placed her on a not so flattering third place on their “Women who gained a few pounds too many lately”-list. That was yet another plan of Willie’s that had worked out splendidly. One little phone call to the editor in chief and violá, Fiona started working out again. All he had to do was to tell her that she looked fabulous and reap the benefits of her training.
On his way home he had also gotten a most encouraging phone call from his assistant Kat Blofeld. It seemed like Roger had gone missing at sea. What a blessing! Kat had suggested that he’d send out what she diplomatically chose to call “a search and terminate” party. But for now Willie just wanted to revel in the idea of Roger slowly sinking into his watery grave, with a surprised look on his stupid face and eyes like cloudy pearls. Or, even better, revel in the idea of Roger being jerked to pieces between two, or preferably more, blood-thirsty great whites.
There surely must be some sort of poetic justice in the fact that great whites have existed virtually unchanged for millions of years, while other less feisty creatures had become extinct. Like Roger, for instance. Things were really going Willies way, so he couldn’t help letting out a “Muahahahaha!” aloud, even though there was no-one there to hear him. If anyone could have heard him, they would have noticed that his voice was way too squealy to do a convincing villain laugh.
He flung his coat on a chair, went off into the kitchen and headed for the fridge. When his hand touched the fridge door, Egghead sent him a message. Eating late at night increases the risk for cardio-vascular deseases. “Sod it!” said Willie and opened the door and took out a bottle of champagne. This was no time to think of gloomy prospects of getting cardio-vascular-problems. This was a time to celebrate, besides alcohol is good for the heart, right?
Willie grabbed a glass and sat down in his favourite chair by the huge window overlooking Megasmooth’s main compound. He could watch his employees scuttering around like ants down there. Little Willie was on top of the world. Still, there was something that bugged him. Maybe Kat had been right. Maybe it would be best to send a “search and terminate” party just to make sure that Roger wouldn’t pop up and spoil his fun again.
“Kat?” Willie used Egghead’s direct link and found Kat in the bath.
The fact that Willie could see what Kat was doing wasn’t yet another glitch in the Egghead code. It was a particularly nice little piece of code that he had written himself and secretly had added to his own egghead. It meant that he could secretly tap in to all the visual information that was currently feeding into the other people’s Eggheads as long as he was connected to them. Very handy indeed. And at this very moment he saw an ocean of foam and two steep knee islands in the middle.
“Yes?” He could hear that she tried to sound as if she was sitting at her desk burning the midnight oil.
“Maybe we should send out that “search and terminate” party after all. We cannot risk that idiot popping up somewhere. Not now.”
“I’ll take care of it.” One of her legs surfaced and stretched seductively up in the air. Little clouds of foam slid down along the smooth skin towards the water.
“I know you will. Report to me in the morning.”
“Yes, Sir.”
She hung up, but he stayed connected long enough to learn that that smooth skin did not come naturally and that it wasn’t only her legs that were smooth.
He felt mysteriously thirsty and poured himself another glass of champagne while trying to decide what he liked best: the thought of Roger already being dead or the thought of him being terminated by Willie’s own troopers. Willie found it a very tricky question indeed.
